What Causes Hemorrhoids
What causes hemorrhoids? If we want to simplify the cause of hemorrhoids, we will say that hemorrhoids are caused by pressure that occurs on the veins of both the pelvis and the rectum. The source of the pressure delineates the cause of various hemorrhoids.
Poor bathroom habits can put a lot of pressure on the rectal system. Sitting in an uncomfortable manner on the toilet or for a prolonged time causes gravity to put pressure on the anus. Trying to pass a hard stool, dealing with constipation, causes tremendous pressure. Common or frequent diarrhea will put pressure on those systems as well. Sit comfortably on the toilet with good support and eat well so stools will not be too hard or too soft, if you want to avoid hemorrhoids.
Genetic factors will predispose a person to hemorrhoids. If your parents or grandparents had a genetic weakness in this area, you may inherit the tendency to having hemorrhoids. Take steps to avoid aggravating this tendency.
Carrying excess weight will put pressure on the anal system. That excess weight can be caused by obesity, so for that reason as well as bowel health, it is important to eat lots of fruit and vegetables. Of course, pregnancy also causes excess weight, and pregnant women often develop hemorrhoids.
Job factors can be another cause of hemorrhoids. A person who sits for a long time puts extra pressure on the pelvic floor. If someone has to stand a lot, gravity and their own weight pushes down causing a tendency to hemorrhoids. So does having to lift heavy objects all day at a job. Avoiding hemorrhoids in the work place may mean changing physical position frequently. Sit for awhile, and then stand for awhile. It also may mean using equipment for heavy lifts or finding someone to help lift the heavy items.
Some causes of hemorrhoids are in our control, like weight and position, but some are not, like genetics. It is a good idea to avoid the causes that we can.
